Information Technology (IT) Biography
Software Developer (analysis, programming, etc.)
In his previous career as a humanities academic (researcher, writer, course instructor, conference presenter, and musician), Durrell frequently used computers, so he decided to make a career change into software development. He is now also a graduate of the post-degree certificate program in Computer Applications Development at Conestoga College. His professional background (see more of this website!) contributed to his strong skills in language, communications, organization, teamwork, attention-to-detail, learning and applying new skills, confidence, maturity, and discipline—and to his responsibility and dedication to large-scale projects and contexts. His interests as a software developer include systems analysis and design, programming, database implementation, and testing.
Durrell learned the following technologies and approaches: XHTML, CSS, SQL, C# (using MS Visual Studio), Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, ASP.NET, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, Networking, and Linux. His systems project team won several awards for its Media Management system. Then, during his summer 2010 work-term (i.e., the end of his program), he consolidated many of his new skills by using XHTML and CSS for his web-based program notes for the Bowdoin International Music Festival, as well as PHP and MySQL for his database implementation and web programming for the American Musicological Society's web-based database called Doctoral Dissertations in Musicology. Durrell completed his college program requirements in August 2010. His GPA was 3.97 out of 4 (High Distinction).
